When we first saw the 2013 SRT Viper at the New York Auto Show, we weren’t totally surprised; actually, we weren’t surprised at all as the car was probably the worst kept secret of the New York show, or of any other 2012 shows, for that matter.
What did surprise us was when SRT CEO Ralph Gilles managed to sneak off the main stage when the lights were low, only to be replaced by a live-action intro of the Viper GTS-R race car, with Canadian driver Kuno Wittmer at the wheel.
At the time, there was no confirmation as to when we’d actually be seeing the car on-track, but SRT has since released a video (above) courtesy of their YouTube channel that reveals, in spine-tingling fashion, that we’ll be seeing the car much sooner than we thought.
Look for two cars to be fielded at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge on August 2-4 of this year, competing not in some experimental class, but in the proper GT Class of the American Le Mans Series, mixing it up with Ferraris, BMWs and arch-nemeses Corvettes.
Enjoy.
