This 1964 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 #6227 is a four-headlamp Series I car with a numbers matching Colombo V12 #6227 and a four-speed overdrive transmission. The car was sold new by Garage Francorchamps in Belgium and eventually made its way to North America. Just 503 of these Series I cars were built, this example has undergone a three-year cosmetic refurbishment finished in 2015 which included rust repair and a bare metal respray in its original Silver Grey Metallic. The process is photo-documented and invoices are shown for many new parts. The sale includes copies of the original Ferrari build sheet and a detailed condition report from 330 expert Kerry Chesbro of the 330 GT Register done in 2016, viewable in the pictures. A previous owner purchased the car as a driver in good condition 25 years ago, driving it for a decade before putting it into long-term storage. He put it back on the road several years later and eventually decided to bring it to the next level with some restoration work. During that time 6227 was red as shown in the pictures, and had been repainted more than once previously. When the restoration work commenced in 2012, it was decided to return the car to its original Grigio Argento. Rust repair and a bare metal respray were carried out by a shop in Victoria. Numerous coats of primer in two colors were applied and hand-sanded to address any imperfections and get the bodyline correct. The body was then sprayed with two coats of color and a final clear coat. Prior to paint, rusted areas were removed and metal was replaced in the rear wheel arches and both rockers. The outside rocker metal was modified and bent at the pinch weld area as noted in the condition report – it looks correct from the side but is thicker than stock specification. No further rust repair was necessary in the nose, quarter panels or other areas. A small crease was repaired in one door, but no other evidence of body damage was uncovered. The condition report notes that the rear reflectors are mounted horizontally when they should be vertical, and the gas cap is not original. Correct Pirelli 205/15 Cinturato tires were purchased in 2013 and mounted on Borrani wires of appropriate vintage, which were rebuilt with new stainless spokes and re-chromed hubs – the included spare is stamped with the correct RW 3801 model number. The front bumper was re-contoured, while some glass shows its age on close inspection including a corner of the windshield. New rubber seals were fitted throughout, though some small trim items are missing like the rubber strips covering fender and door gaps and U-shaped PVC trim around the trunk opening. The interior is largely original with some replacement, incorrect and missing pieces such as a non-original shift knob, incorrect pedal pads, and a missing clock adjustment knob. The transmission tunnel has been reupholstered, and both door panels were recovered to correct holes where aftermarket speakers had previously been installed. A carpet kit is a modern material rather than the factory-supplied Wilton style weave. Seats and headliner are believed to be original as is most of the interior chrome. A window mechanism was replaced with a used unit, and electrical items are stated as working except for several lights, the cigarette lighter and the clock. The oil pressure gauge is noted as registering incorrectly at first before reading normally. The original 4.0-liter Type 209 all-alloy, single overhead cam V12 has had all three of its dual-throat Weber carburetors rebuilt and a new fuel pump fitted. A new quilted hood pad was installed and the valve covers and air cleaner were refinished. The block stamping shows matching engine #6227. A valve adjustment was performed and a new oil pump and refurbished radiator were installed, while the ignition system was freshened with new points, plugs, condensers, rotors, caps, spark plugs and wires. A new Ansa exhaust including piping, tips and mufflers was sourced at a cost of $4,500. The four-speed transmission’s electric overdrive was serviced during the refurbishment and is said to have worked properly until the recent appearance of an electrical issue which remains unresolved. The 330GT’s Dunlop four wheel disc dual-circuit braking system has received a new master cylinder and rebuilt twin boosters. Sold new in Belgium, the car made its way to Canada and was purchased by the seller in 1994. Records didn’t make it across the Atlantic, but 95k km/57k miles are deemed accurate by a previous seller, who drove it around 1000km per year over his first 10 years with the car. He performed most service himself before storing it for seven years prior to the recent refurbishment. The 330 GT featured a new frame with a wheelbase 2 inches longer than its predecessor which was heavily based on the 250 GTE. Despite the 330 GT's 2+2 layout its shape was distinctly Ferrari with a long hood and short trunk with the classic Ferrari profile. The genius shape was penned by a young Tom Tjaarda of Pininfarina who joined the firm in 1961 at the age of 27. The Colombo V12 engine was refined yet again with an enlarged block for extra cooling capacity. Displacing 3967 cubic centimeters, averaging 330cc per cylinder, the hungry V12 was fed by triple Weber carburetors and produced 300hp at 6,600rpm. Power was transferred through a manual 4-speed gearbox with electric overdrive for highway efficiency. While handling was designed for high speed touring with fully independent front suspension and a solid axle in the rear held with longitudinal pushrods and tubular shocks. Car and Driver magazine in 1965 noted the 330 GT's the cars high speed handling characteristics stating the 330 GT was “smooth as glass at anything over eighty.” The 330 GT 2+2 today has a special moniker in Ferrari circles as it was one of the very few production cars that Enzo Ferrari drove personally with two of the prototypes driven by him as his personal cars. This car is optioned with a Wood rimmed steering wheel, Power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, ANSA Marmitte exhaust system, 15" Borrani chrome wire wheels.
