If you have a family, if you like to haul a lot of stuff or if you are the unofficial party bus then you have thought about buying a minivan. And it’s the right decision too. Since Chrysler introduced the segment with the “van you could park in your garage,” minivans have become a hallmark of North Americana.
Find out what the top five minivans are.
5. Kia Sedona
As Kia grew up in Canada it used the Sedona as a sure bet to lure buyers into the showroom. It had price going for it and just like its cousin manufacturer, Hyundai, less expensive models were loaded with features usually found in more expensive models. The 2009 model was awarded the same scores for durability as the Honda Odyssey and Dodge Caravan.
Okay, so some people wouldn’t include this here because it’s a lot smaller than the rest in this category but we can all agree it has the same shape and same sliding doors. The bottom line is, a young family of five will have no problem fitting in here and with one of the rear seats folded down could even make a road trip vacation doable. The top trim level is among the least expensive in this list and it’s quite handsome to boot.
3. Toyota Sienna
There have been different competitors in the luxury minivan category but one of the veterans is the Toyota Sienna. Toyota has had some ugly as sin minivans including the Toyota Van and Toyota Previa but the Sienna is the swan. With refined interiors, an all wheel drive option and slightly better pricing than its main competitor, the Honda Odyssey, if you’re looking to drop a bit more coin for a bit more minivan, this is the place to start looking.
2. Honda Odyssey
The Odyssey is the best Minivan available on the road. Unless you factor in price. It has the smoothest ride, most comfortable seating, most practical interior layout and being driven around in one, as my cousin who owns a black one with chrome trim says, is like being driven in a limousine. And his has almost 300,000 kilometres on it. Only Toyota has the same reputation for reliability but no one else has the same level of class. This is your “I have arrived” minivan.
1. Dodge Caravan
Price, practicality and proven. The three p’s for the Dodge Caravan are all you need to know. If you need a minivan and you don’t want to decide between putting a down payment on a house or buying a family mover then this is the way to go. Lots of seating and innovative features over the years make for a treasure trove of options. From stow and go seats that hide away in the floor to a sub $20k starting price on some of their new models makes for a hard argument against the value proposition. There’s a reason it’s the number one selling minivan in North America.
