2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel

By the time the summer driving season gets into full swing, General Motors’ Chevrolet brand will be ready to enter the diesel car segment in Canada and the U.S. with a 2.0L turbo-diesel version of its popular Cruze sedan.

And GM is betting that the 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel will, as the the newest edition to the brand’s four-cylinder lineup, interest not only consumers who prefer diesel over gas, but also drivers who have a thing for compact cars offering performance, fuel economy and torque.

Chris Perry, vice president of marketing for Chevrolet, said in a statement that the company “leveraged engineering expertise” worldwide to create a “world-class, low-emissions engine” that will provide drivers on both sides of the border with a car that is both a hoot to drive and “practical at the pump.”

The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel has, based on tests conducted by GM, demonstrated estimated best-in-class range and 42 mpg for highway driving and the ability to go from 0-60 mph in 8.6 seconds. According to GM, the sedan’s engine will crank out 148 horsepower and some 258 lb-ft torque. The car’s emissions, moreover, will be below stronger U.S. environmental standards.

The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel will be available at a starting price of $25,695 and will come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, 140-amp alternator, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, 800 cold-cranking amps battery, 17-inch alloy wheels and more.
